Documentary filmmaker and Odessa Movies owner Odessa Sathyan passes away today (Aug.19) at Kozhikode. He was 52 and survived by his wife Jenny and two children. Veteran filmmaker had been battling cancer for long time. He was considered as one of pioneers in promoting parallel cinema in Malayalam industry.

 With the support of people, former naxal activist turns film enthusiast. Odessa
Sathyan along with legendary filmmaker John Abraham, set out to change entire established cinematic thoughts with 'people's cinema movement'. He was hospitalized during the works of his latest documentary "Vishudha Pashu". Odessa started it's journey from "Amma Ariyan", a documentary style film from John Abraham.

 Their contribution include documentary on the life of late poet A Ayyappan - "Ithreyum Yaathabhagam", next one is "Vettayadappetta Manasu", which revolves around the death of naxalite leader Varghese and the confession of a police constable Ramachandran Nair. "Agnirekha" again based on the life of naxalite Angadippuram Balakrishnan. "Mortuary of Love" involve fake love and sexual perversions. "Shadow Of Darkness", which showcased Emergency period in the country.
